Press Release: Beyond the Craft: Makers Gather to Discuss Business Transitions with the BDCC and HatchSpace

Brattleboro, Vermont – Are you a maker or artisan considering selling your creative business, looking to acquire one, or planning for its future? Join the Brattleboro Development Credit Corporation (BDCC) and HatchSpace for a focused one-hour event addressing the unique challenges and opportunities of business transitions in the creative sector. This session will explore the complexities of selling, buying, or transitioning a maker or artisan business, providing an overview of topics such as valuation, financing, legal considerations, and succession planning. We’ll delve into the specific needs and hurdles faced by creative entrepreneurs, offering practical tips and resources to help you navigate these crucial stages. This event takes place at HatchSpace on Wednesday, March 26th, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

This series is part of BDCC’s commitment to fostering a resilient and diverse business community. It renews our focus on addressing the avoidable job losses caused by business closures due to owner retirement. Funded in part by a 2024 Rural Cooperative Development Grant (RCDG) from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), the series will cover a wide range of transition strategies to identify businesses at risk of closure or transition, while providing targeted technical assistance to prevent closures and promote cooperative formation as a key aspect of our business transition mission.

HatchSpace, a vibrant community workshop and woodworking school in downtown Brattleboro, offers classes, workshops, workforce development programs, youth summer camps and a fully-equipped woodshop for makers of every level. This joint BDCC and HatchSpace event provides a valuable opportunity to meet others facing similar challenges in deciding how to take over or find a successor for their business.  It’s a chance to discover how the resources and connections fostered at HatchSpace and the BDCC can be a valuable addition to your business transition planning.

Registration is encouraged but not required and can be completed HERE.

The workshop will be followed by BDCC’s popular BizConnect networking series at 5pm in partnership with Hatchspace’s Meetup Series. Both events are free, and refreshments will be provided.  Registration is encouraged and can be completed HERE.
